Identifying Koyker Valve Series for Correct Repair Parts - Used on Tractors Less than 80HP

Identifying Koyker Valve Series for Correct Repair Parts - Used on Tractors Less than 80HP Identifying Koyker loader control joystick valve series to ensure you’re getting the right replacement parts:

The internal parts on the Koyker loader control joystick valve, like the spools and the relief valve internal pieces, will only match up correctly if you identify ahead of time what series Koyker valve you have before purchasing the replacement parts. As far as I have seen, there seem to be 5 series of Koyker valves used on loaders put on tractors that are 80 hp or less. The current valve has these identifying features: A bolt in the middle of the valve body top and bottom, a blue tag identifying the valve as “Pace 7040”, two bars in the cast valve body on the front, and a long tin cap on one spool. It is painted gray.

A valve that seems to be a fairly recent series looks very similar to the current version valve - it is painted gray and looks basically identical at first glance. While the hoses do attach to this valve in the exact same way, and it does have the same bolt on the top and bottom of the valve body, there are some identifying details when you look closely. It does not have a blue tag on it - in fact it doesn’t have a tag at all. On the back of the valve, instead of two round projections, this one has one round projection and one horseshoe shaped projection.

The older Koyker valve series were painted black. When you see a valve that looks basically the same as the current joystick except it’s painted black, that is the main feature that lets you know it’s older. One of the black older series has no bolt on top but does have a bolt on the bottom. The other black older series has no bolt on top or on the bottom. One black valve does have a tag, the other one does not. The black valve that does have a tag has a different tag than the current model. This particular tag is actually built right into the cast valve body, as a small raised spot and has the part number engraved into the steel. The part number starts with a “DO6.” One black painted valve says “Made in Italy.”

My favorite valve series is what I assume is the oldest of the valves that look very similar and function the same as the current valve. It seems to be the highest quality. It has a cast valve body that is unpainted - just plain metal. It does not have the longer tin cap on the lower spool. It has “Made in Italy” stamped on the back.

The external replacement parts work fine regardless of the series valve you have. As far as I know, the handle threads in just fine on any of the valve series. I have also sold and had my tech guys use the replacement joints kit we carry on older valve series, and that has worked fine as well. The rubber boot, of course, is universal for all the series. The pieces that are NOT universal across all the series of valves are the internal pieces that are specially machined for that valve series. The spools have an extremely tight tolerance in their fit with the valve body, so those absolutely must be replaced with a spool specifically machined for that valve series. The internal pieces in the relief valve, while not machined with as close tolerance as the spools, are unique to each valve series. In general, we advise NOT taking apart the relief valve piece - you will likely lose one of the internal pieces, and a hydraulic shop in general will not have a replacement piece. Even Short Line Parts doesn’t necessarily have these replacement parts on hand.
