Andrew Yang also says that making the federal government the employer of millions of Americans woulnd't work for a variety of reasons. For example, private sector companies may not recognize government employment as legit work experience. There's also the issue of someone not liking their job and not being able to do anything on it since they're reliant on it for their survival, whereas a UBI would give them the freedom to walk away from that job.
