Boris Johnson loses twice: Brexit delayed again and PM must appoint new EU Commissioner

Boris Johnson loses twice: Brexit delayed again and PM must appoint new EU Commissioner UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has failed to achieve what he set out as the most important goal of his premiership. Even at the end of last week he was still claiming that Brexit could happen by 31 October, but that plan is now dead.

The European Union has allowed a "flextension" till 31st January 2020.

The flextension also contains a declaration saying that the EU will not renegotiate the withdrawal agreement and that the UK must nominate someone for the European Commissioner role, although PM Boris Johnson has said that he would not make a nomination.

Owing to European Commisson spokeswoman Mina Andreeva, president elect Ursula von der Leyen will get in touch with UK government, asking for a UK nomination.
