WATCH: Sullivan says asking nations to investigate political rivals not ‘in accord with our values’ The nominee to be the next U.S. ambassador to Russia told Senate lawmakers on Wednesday that asking foreign governments to investigate political opponents is not “in accord with our values.” John Sullivan was responding to senators' questions about whether it was appropriate for President Donald Trump to ask Ukraine’s president to investigate 2020 candidate Joe Biden and his son. The interaction has since become the subject of a House impeachment inquiry. Sullivan, who is the current deputy secretary of state, appeared as part of his confirmation hearing before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
