I'm glad its a cool october not a warm september or it could have been a lot worse. Always leave 10% head space in any primary fermenting vessel as the initial fermentation kicks off a yeasty foam is created on top of the fermenting apple juice and as CO2 bubbles up into it it can fill the space and eject itself. It will only ever happen at the start and only if you overfill. My containers are 530 litres so putting 20 litres into a 2nd one was impractical.
