James Kalm came to New York to study at the Art Students League in the late 1970s. In the decades since, he’s revisited this august institution on many occasions. But “Postwar Women, They Were Always Here” might be the most outstanding exhibition your correspondent has witnessed. With over forty artist’s work included, and surveying a couple of generations the breadth and spectrum of this exhibition is unprecedented. Following on the heels of the release of Mary Gabriel’s “Ninth Street Women”, this show fills in many of the gaps, and gives viewers an opportunity to experience works by many of the women who were essential in the founding and blooming of the New York School.
