The Replica of Golden Cat & a Sword with Shield represents a symbolic heritage of pride and prosperity related to an aboriginal tribe of Assam called the Chutiyas who ruled in Sadia and some parts of upper Assam during the pre-Ahom period.
The Chutiya dynasty worshipped the treasure of golden cat with a sword and shield with honour and dignity. The golden cat is originated from a historical legend that states how the Chutiya queen Rupawati, being childless, prayed for a son and one day 'Kuber' --the god of fortune assuming the form of Birabor, the Chutiya king, had intercourse with her.
The god appeared to Birabor in a dream and informed him that his wife would shortly present him with a son and directed him to a certain tree under which he should find a treasure.
Birabor obeyed the vision and found a golden cat with a sword and shield which was later preserved with the greatest care. As long as it remained in his family, success and prosperity were insured to all his successors.
The Chutiya tribe long believed the golden cat as there 'totem' perceived to be a real ancestor on which their well-being was supernaturally dependent. Similarly, there was a 'taboo' of the Chutiyas.
Here this video presents the mystery of the golden cat as a 'totem' of the Chutiya tribe and in this episode was have an author Dr. Prasanta Kumar Chutia with us, for giving more information on the topic.
