The party and the state take care of the people with responsibility for their health and give them medical treatment free of charge in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.
The universal free medical care system is one of the policies enforced by the great leader Kim Il Sung for the people.
Kim Il Sung took a step to enforce the universal free medical care system during the fierce Fatherland Liberation War.
One day in January Juche 41(1952) he called an official in the field of public health and called for enforcing free medical care system.
The veteran public health official looked up at him with surprise because he knew too well what an enormous money was necessary for the free medical care system.
Looking at the official, Kim Il Sung said: Though the state shoulders great burdens and there are big difficulties, we sharing weal and woe with the people should enforce the universal free medical care system with all sincerity. To us, nothing is more valuable than the lives of the people.
Finally, the decision of the Cabinet on enforcing the universal free medical care system was proclaimed during the war in November Juche 41(1952).
Even after the enforcement of the free medical care system, Kim Il Sung stressed the need to provide the conditions of medical service and its qualitative level to protect the lives and health of people with responsibility.
In December Juche 64(1975) he also ensured that popular medicines were produced with materials rich in the country, saying that if the free medical care system was to prove effective, there should be a lot of medicines.
Thanks to the benevolent affection of the great leader Kim Il Sung who gave top priority to the lives and health of the people, the Korean people are leading a happy life, enjoying along in good health.
