Fotheringhay Castle - England's Most Significant Forgotten Castle

Fotheringhay Castle - England's Most Significant Forgotten Castle Recently I visited Fotheringhay Castle, in Northamptonshire, England. Although there may not look like a castle at all in this video, it's importance to English History is extremely significant. Fotheringhay Castle marks the birthplace of Richard III. One of England's most notorious kings, Richard III would be the man William Shakespeare would blame for the deaths of the, 'Princes in the Tower.' Richard III would also be the usurper who's defeat at the Battle of Bosworth, ending the Wars of the Roses would usher in the Tudor Era.

Also Fotheringhay Castle marks the site of execution and imprisonment of Mary Queen of Scots, one of Elizabeth I's biggest threats to the throne. During Elizabeth's reign, tensions with religion existed and a number of plots and attempts to over-throw her would occur. One such plot, The Babington Plot would lead to the execution of her Catholic rival, Mary Queen of Scots. The trial of Mary and her execution played out within the walls of Fotheringhay Castle. It's fair to say Fotheringhay Castle is more than just a hill, it's important to never judge a book by its' cover. The Castle's story is hugely captivating. Also in this video, we visit Fotheringhay Church and discover the links it has to the Wars of the Roses, Edward IV and more importantly, The House of York. Join us as we take a trip into the Medieval Game of Thrones, and explore the remarkable and forgotten, Fotheringhay Castle.
