I would rather go for dinner.
I would prefer to go for dinner.

Would rather- Subject + Would rather + Verb

Would rather is used to show preference with comparison.
It’s such a nice weather, I would rather go out for walk than watch TV

Would prefer- Subject + Would prefer + To + Verb

When you talk about general preference then use just prefer.
I prefer cycling than walking.
I prefer jazz to rock music.

I would prefer it if you don’t smoke.
