Lee Johnson says the players have responded well to a mini post-Christmas break with attentions now on a trip to Wigan Athletic this weekend.

The squad returned to training after a few days of rest and relaxation away from the pitches, and Johnson hopes a rejuvenated camp can bring out their best football.

And their next chance at getting a positive result comes with a trip to the DW Stadium this weekend (January 11th, 3pm KO) and all eyes are now firmly fixed on the Sky Bet Championship fixture.

The head coach said: “They’ve looked really sharp, really bright. I think it [the three-day break] was needed physically and mentally after a tough Christmas period but at the same time we have shown some quality play, we’ve been bright and I know that when we’re bright, enthused and happy that we put in our best performances.

“They [Wigan] are a good side who have been playing some excellent football and I think they have good players. My analysts would say they are in a false position but of course we go there making sure we put in a similar display to the one against Luton.

“It was very assured and very accomplished while we scored goals at the right same time. It’s a tough, typical Championship game and one we are thoroughly looking forward to after a well-earned rest.”
