Large explosion and fire at Marathon refinery outside Los Angeles

Firefighters spent much of late Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning battling a large fire at the Marathon Petroleum Corporation refinery after an explosion rocked the facility.

Several people reported seeing a large ball of fire when the explosion occurred.

The blaze was contained by early Wednesday and HazMat teams were sent to monitor air quality. No harmful contaminants were detected and authorities have not yet confirmed what sparked the fire. No injuries have been reported.
