Lord, Search Our Hearts: PrayTV PGM January 29, 2020

Lord, Search Our Hearts: PrayTV PGM January 29, 2020 Lord, Search Our Hearts:

Today, in the United States Senate, men and women of Congress are attempting to search out the secret motives and the innermost thoughts of the President of the United States of America. For those of you who are watching from afar, on the other side of the globe, I would ask that you join us in prayer for this nation, the United States of America.

We human beings have a deep problem. We find it profoundly difficult to set aside our particular biases. Our personal presuppositions become paramount, occluding our objectivity.

In our governing system, we have a two-party system with a few independents tossed in for good measure. How in the world can each party and its individual members identify such diverse motives and come to such oppositional conclusions, when looking the same set of facts?

The reality is that we as human beings cannot discern our own hearts, let alone accurately see what is happening deep down in the heart of someone else, but God can! Jeremiah Chapter 17 and verses 9-10 declare.... “The human heart is the most deceitful of all things, and desperately wicked. Who really knows how bad it is? But I, the Lord, search all hearts and examine secret motives. I give all people their due rewards, according to their actions” (New Living Translation).

Because of the complexity and the depth of the depravity of the heart of man, it really does take God to plumb these depths. He is the only One that discerns and judges the hearts of men accurately. We are instructed in 1 Corinthians Chapter 11, verses 31-32.... “For if we would judge ourselves, we would not be judged. But when we are judged, we are chastened by the Lord, that we may not be condemned with the world” (New King James Version).

Today, we pray for godly wisdom to help us examine ourselves and to discern what is really motivating the inner workings of our souls. What is moving our decision-making process?

Lord, help us today to see what is moving us to steps of action. Reveal what we can’t see on our own. We, like the United States senators, really need Your insight, Your understanding and yes, Your mercy. To a person, we are so self-absorbed, so self-focused, so driven to push our way to the place of prominence, and so deeply in need of Your chastening purifying love.

We agree with David as we pray Psalm 51, verses 5-9.... “Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin my mother conceived me. Behold, You desire truth in the inward parts, and in the hidden part You will make me to know wisdom. Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. Make me hear joy and gladness, that the bones You have broken may rejoice. Hide Your face from my sins and blot out all my iniquities” (New King James Version).

Blessings, Brandt
