I Planted Free Corn... Was It Worth It?

I Planted Free Corn... Was It Worth It? Most days on the farm start out about the same. Grease the combine, clean chaff off the combine, unplug the corn head, complain about the crops or the weather, and then combine corn. That is how this video started!

Champion Seed decided to show up today to get the results on their test plot. Brandon introduces himself for those of you who are new to the channel, and Seth, one of the owners of Champion Seed also decided to drop by.

Before we started picking corn, Brandon went over the Champion Seed's plant health and then we got the weigh wagon set up to dial in the AgLeader InCommand 1200 yield monitor. After a little bit of back and forth across the field, we were able to dial in our yield monitor and start picking the plot. We picked 61A19 first and were very pleased with it. It yielded 222.7 bushels per acre. This number was rather arbitrary unless I had something to compare it to. That is where AgFiniti on the iPad came into play. We were able to check the yield maps on surrounding varieties and see apples to apples how Champion Seed compared with other 108 day varieties. I also did a cost analysis of the seed we planted on our other acres versus the Champion varieties.

Brandon and Seth both rode along with me for a few hours and we got the Champion Plot picked. The final result was a yield of 224.5 bushels per acre in a 33 acre patch. Throughout the season we were extremely satisfied with the plant health from the Champion Seed varieties we planted. We planted 61A19 and 58A18 - 111 day and 108 day corn varieties.
