In 2018/2019 Waste Management (WM) conducted a village-wide recycling cart tagging program in the community of Round Lake Beach, IL, where each route was studied for 3 consecutive weeks to determine if recycling bins had contamination, or non-recyclables, in them. In 2019, nearly a year later, the Solid Waste Agency of Lake County (SWALCO) re-visited homes to determine the current recycling contamination rates. Around 450 homes total were visited in this program. The cart tagging program helped to notify residents about recycling guidelines in their neighborhood and promote where to dispose of non-recyclable items. SWALCO would like to thank the village of Round Lake Beach for their participation in this cart tagging program, as well as their efforts to continue to recycle right!
