How To access the BMW i8 wiper blades - Maintenance Mode to Replace or Clean

The BMW i8 has a Maintenance Mode in order to access the wiper blades. On pre-2016 models, if you don't use this method, you may damage the hood of your BMW i8 when you lift the wiper arm on the passenger side. This method ensures that the wiper blades on the BMW i8 are in a position where you can lift them away from the windshield in order to clean the wiper blades or the windshield, lift the blades away from winter weather to prevent freezing, or to replace the blades. Simply follow this How To procedure and you'll be good to go.

One of my subscribers let me know: "I did notice that on my 2016, only the drivers blade goes to the maintenance mode. Even the BMW i Driver's Guide refers to the wiper blade in the singular. I checked the passenger side and there is adequate room to lift the blade into the maintenance mode." So, it appears BMW modified the 2016 and later years.
