One person dies as 10 lodges and camps in Maasai Mara Game Reserve are flooded Mr. John Tome a landlord of Tipilikwani camp in Maasai Mara which was submerged in floodwaters speaks on Thursday 30, 2020. One person who was rescuing his colleagues died at Olaishaiki village, in Narok west sub-county after he was swept away by the Talek river after it broke its banks following a two days’ downpour.
More than 10 lodges and camps adjacent to the river, in the world-famous Maasai Mara game reserve were marooned by floodwater forcing staff in the facilities to evacuate the visitors.
The submerged lodges are Mara Leisure Camp, Base Camp, Mara Acacia, Azure lodge, Oleshaiki, River Side, crocodile, Mara Ngenje and Mara Eden lodges and tented camps. The Talek River and the tourists in the camp.
Mr. Benard Alukabha, a worker at Tipilikwani camp one of the lodges marooned by floodwaters in the Maasai Mara game reserve. Several tourists have been evacuated to Talek trading center after they were stuck for 2 days in the facilities
