Alexander Maclaren was a contemporary of Watchtower founder Charles Taze Russell. Maclaren, as a Baptist and an evangelical Christian, had no axe to grind with the JW.org understanding of "Governing Body". C.T. Russell himself did not teach "Governing Body" to his followers -- that "new light" did not shine upon Jehovah's Witnesses till shortly before the 1975 debacle. So Maclaren examines Acts, specifically the all-important 8 verses in Acts 11 (vv 19-26), without prejudice.
